From the Artistic Director
2010 marks the bicentennial of the birth of Frederic Chopin. The Vancouver Chopin Society joins the classical music world to celebrate this memorable year of the great composer’s bicentennial by presenting a three-day Chopin festival for our season-ending concerts.
Chopin came from a Polish and French heritage, and his music naturally reflects the numerous characteristics, sentiments, spirit, artistic and nationalistic elements of these two countries and their people. On the occasion of his anniversary, we have invited a Polish pianist and a French pianist to perform in our three-day festival to be held in May 2010. We have also invited a well-known Polish soprano to sing the seldom heard Chopin songs. This programme will also include a performance of some of Chopin’s chamber music. The festival will also feature a lecture on Chopin’s Preludes presented by a very well known Chopin scholar.
We promise you an exciting season next year and hope that you can join us. The Vancouver Chopin Society is a non-profit organization committed to providing top-notch Canadian and international pianists to Metro Vancouver audiences. The Society could not function without the generous support of its individual members and corporate sponsors to cover its operating costs. We gratefully acknowledge your financial assistance over the years and hope you will continue to support us in the future.
