After Andre Laplante's unforgettable performance in 2004, we could only invite him back. One critic called his performance "Music-making of which memories are made". Over the last decade, André Laplante has firmly established himself as one of the great romantic virtuosos of our times. He garnered international attention after winning prizes at the Geneva and Sydney International Piano Competitions, then capturing the silver medal at the International Tchaďkovsky Competition in Moscow . Critics have compared him with Ashkenazy, Horowitz and Rudolph Serkin, placing him in the elite circle of virtuoso pianists who do not hesitate to take risks. The Globe and Mail wrote of a 2003 concert "Laplante is not only a great pianist, but also a great musician, aurally absolutely inside the music's fabric and momentum. He played as Brahms himself might have played." " ...the range of dynamics and tone colours Laplante produced was little short of astonishing" remarked another critic.
In 2005, Mr. Laplante was named an Officer of the Order of Canada . His performance of Jacques Hetu's Piano Concerto No. 2 for CBC Records won the 2004 Juno award for orchestral recordings, as well as the Western Canadian Music Award. On January 22nd, 2006, André Laplante was the recipient of a special award - Les Prix Opus - Interprčte de l'Année.
