Janne Mertanen

Janne Mertanen Back by popular demand, Janne Mertanen is the first artist to be invited for a second appearance with The Vancouver Chopin Society. After capturing the attention of the musical public at large by winning the International Chopin Competition in Darmstadt, Mertanen has become known as a sublime Chopin interpreter. He has toured throughout Europe, Japan and Australia, and appeared in Canada and the U.S. in 2003. Mertanen has completed recordings of music by Chopin, Beethoven, Glinka, Satie, Sibelius and Kokkonen. His latest recording of the complete Chopin nocturnes was released in spring 2004 to great critical acclaim.

The artist will perform the following program:

  • W.A. Mozart – Sonata No. 10 in C Major KV 330
  • L. van Beethoven – Sonata No. 31 A-flat major, Op. 110

Intermission

  • F. Chopin -Impromptu No. 2 in F-sharp major, Op.36
  • Impromptu No.3 in G-flat major, Op. 51
  • Scherzo No.3 in C-sharp minor, Op.39
  • Polonaise in C minor, Op. 40 No. 2
  • Ballade No. 4 in F minor, Op.52
