Severin von Eckardstein
Among the world’s most prestigious international piano competitions, the Queen Elisabeth Piano Competition takes place once every four years in Brussels. The Vancouver Chopin Society is proud to be presenting Severin von Eckardstein, the Grand Prize winner in concert as the first Canadian stop in a worldwide tour of laureates following the 2003 competition. The winner has been announced on June 8, 2003.
Born in 1978,Severin von Eckardstein is a native of Dusseldorff where he began his music studies. He later studied with Karl-Heinz Hammerling and Klaus Hellwig. He has won prizes at several international competitions, including the ARD competition in Munich (second prize in 1999), the Leeds Competition (third prize in 2000) and the Jose Iturbi Competition (second prize in 2002). He has given numerous concerts in Germany and Great Britain, accompanied by various orchestras including the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra and the BBC Philharmonic.
