The 2010 Chopin Festival 200th Anniversary of Chopin’s birth

2010 marks the 200th anniversary of Chopin's birth. This important anniversary creates a great opportunity to celebrate Chopin’s brilliant work. The Vancouver Chopin Society and Consulate General of the Republic of Poland will organize a three day Festival 14-16 May, 2010.

The Festival will include lectures, performances and master-classes. Detailed information will be printed in the pamphlet in September.

The piano recitals will be given by Wojciech Switala and Marc Laforet. Both of them established themselves as outstanding ‘Chopinists’. Marc Laforet won the Silver Medal in the 11th International Frederic Chopin competition in Warsaw, as well as the Prize of Mazurkas, the Prize of the Public and the Prize of Polish Radio-Television.

Urszula Krygier, the brilliant Polish mezzo-soprano will sing Chopin songs. She has performed these songs in many of the major halls in the world including La Scala in Milan.

Prof. Irena Poniatowska from the Institute of Musicology of the Warsaw University, author of many books and over 100 articles published in the leading music periodicals in Poland and abroad will give a lecture about Chopin’s Preludes.
